Queen of Hearts

More character concept. Judy dench wasn't cast and was replaced with Kathy Bates in the end. At this point we were going for a Coco chanel sixties look with beehive hairdos, and even Victorian style wigs at one point.

White Rabbit

This was concept development for the White Rabbit character in the "Alice" live action mini-series which will be appearing on the sci-fi network. At this point we were just throwing out open concept ideas for all the characters, as no casting or costume design had been done yet. It was a real fun part of the production when the illustrators and art directors bounce around ideas for the Production Designer. For this one I was going for a pallid -looking bleached blonde sick boy type dressed up all in white.

Jungle Exotica

-Another poster for a Chaz Royal burlesque event that took place a little while ago. I wasn't really happy with how this one turned out, the layout is a lot more simple (boring) than my previous poster and the style is a little more comic-booky.

Alpha & Omega

Jared Deal is curating a group art show called "Shady Characters" in Brooklyn NYC. It's on July 28th at the " Live with Animals" Gallery. You can check out his blog for more info, ( I'm sure most of you already have ) - if not you can link to him on the left. There is a whole schwak of wicked artists taking part in this show....some real pro's...

I went with more of a theological route with " Alpha & Omega ". These two ladies are about as shady as you can get. The unanswerable questions of who started what and when its gonna end, and where the end is and when the beginning began is all a cloudy, uncertain, shady mess isn't it? The concepts of good and evil and the choices we make daily for an uncertain end, and perhaps an even more uncertain beginning elsewhere?

I tried to go as non digital as I could, so it's going to be a dual piece. One framed image of my original sketch on butcher paper, with an additional framed image of a really nice print on watercolor paper from an offset printer. A nice old school ink print done by some big shaky loud toxic metal machine! YO!!

Above is a black color seperation for the printing machine. OG art and the final Offset print can be see at the show! Check it out if you can!

15 Minutes of Fame

This little fella was done a little while ago. Several different versions of the same design..... I thought the middle one in the top row would have been a winner because it reminded me of a young Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber with the gap tooth and salad bowl haircut. Alas, looks like I was wrong... the client i did this for decided to go with something else entirely.... Looks like the ol' blog is going to be this feller's only fifteen minutes of fame.

Munnies

Here is a Munny I did for the "Show Us Your Munny" show at Voltage on Main Street last week. Its amateur-ish compared to the rest of them but I'm looking forward to doing another one at thier Halloween show. Thanks to Christian and Erica for letting me be part of it! Check out the rest of the wicked Munnies at the Voltage website...they are all for sale remember and nothing says "I love you" like a custom Munny to give to your Mommy on her birthday or other applicable holiday... check out Pats, his had a little accident.

Family Iron

A twelve page pitchpack for Family Iron has just been finished, and its en route to a few places like MTV, Spike, and Fox, the comedy network.... Here is a little collected artwork from the pack. The sales window is a little narrow for an adult show like this, but the whole thing came out of just fooling around and having fun so it's a shot in the dark. We'll see what happens..at any rate I'm most likely going to do an animated promo ( when I can scrounge time) and just continue having fun with it. I got a lot of help from some friends like Adam Wood and Naomi Janzen, who helped me out with some of the writing, and also some great BG design from my talented pal Pat Pakula. Thanks guys and stay gold

Green toxic cloud

HEY LOOK!! It's a sketch....and then you can see the sketch all cleaned up!!! This design is from the Origin story of Doc Ferocious. The green cloud behind him could be for design purposes or it could be a toxic cloud of flatulence. Or it could be a cosmic portal. Or maybe a floating alien amoeba. Or it could be...er...never mind.

What the...?!?!

Here is some quick development art. The Dad is a dimwit, so his helmet has a light bulb he can turn on and off. Get it? The light bulb above his head? Remember that old gag? He has to manually make the light bulb activa...ahhh...nevermind....

CEREAL KILLERS!!

This is an illustration I did for a book called " Cereal Killers" that Von Kreep from 1313 Midnight Creepshow is putting together. I was super fortunate to be asked to do something for it - because it's gonna be a killer book with other illustrations by Jay Stephens, Eddie Mort, Lilli Chin ( and also fellow comrades Garnet and Ridd) ..... keep an eye out for it in the near future and when i find more info about the date of realease i'll post it! Thanks Von Kreep!

More character sheeeet

This is from the same show that I posted previously with the geeky looking guy with the striped shirt squirting milk out of his nose. It was some show about magic. A little while ago I was contacted to do a whole schwak of these guys under super crazy time constraints. One of those situations where some guy wants lineup and pose sheets for six different characters that you have to design as well, all to be finished and cleaned up for the next day. Then you got to stay up till six in the morning pumping out crap like this and drawing horrible hands....then you throw up in your mouth a little....some of it may or may not roll down your chin....

FLOPPY FISH AND SOGGY WEINER

Another ultra quick post. These are a few panels from a storyboard I just finished. This gag has a guy lifting his hat off to reveal a fish floopin around! If that wasn't hilarious enough for you, just notice the pan downwards to reveal some kid with a soggy sandwich with a weiner on top. Comedic genius or cartoon cliche'? I'll let you be the judge....

Some character sheeeet

A character design with poses for some show that went nowhere. It was rushed and I drew horrible hands on it, among other things. I am really busy so I scrounged desperately for a quick post. Once I catch up with my work I'll post more which will be in the next few days....

LIZARDS VERSUS HAPLESS HAIRLESS APES!!!

TRAPPED IN DIMENSION X!!!
These are some character designs for the concept. The Nurgle family (above) dukes it out with the Rutherford family(below) in a fantastic fight of fury to the death... Humans versus lizards!!!...what could be more scary and exciting at the same time? I have no clue....Without giving up or telling TOO much about the plot, the humans WILL die a painful and agonizing death. And they may or may not be IMPALED on a stake by the end, and/or horribly disfugured and grotesquely scarred ....I'm thinking Spartacus, big time here folks.....barbed spiked nets....pitch forks....razor blade wheels.....personally, I'm not a big fan of the human boy design and its very possible the whole lot could be redesigned as well...very much still in the starting blocks...

I had to post this one again here too because its awesome! haha! That is me and Clio, who is actually a kitty in human form...

some assorted designs

Assorted Characters from the vaults of Monster Mayhem...

This is Frank Grimm, the main character of the show. A Mike Hammer style hard boiled private eye. I had to water down the character and get rid of his gun " Stella", because as we all know, kids have access to firearms and maybe it could make them start to shoot people and pets. But, HERE you have him with his gun in all it's glory...YAY!
assorted characters....the middle character was part of a 50's robot juvenile gang. This little guys name is Dicky Richardson. He's pretty much Frank's sidekick because for some reason it was thought that the show couldnt stand on its own without a little kid in it.....just another example of the watering down possibilities a cartoon can go through in the development phase...
more assorted characters....( the mummy being my last fav - a little boring ) the guy on the right is named Dr. Rot, who controls insects and all sorts of grubby gross bugs.
everybody loves a stinking zombie...so cuddly...so smelly....and who can resist fish people? Don't even get me started on that one....

This pitch did pretty well and even went as far as being in development with the WB for about a year and a half. Then it got canned. Then I became a bitter old man.....Hey get off my Porch! Damn rotten kids......

Now I just like developing ideas for the fun of it and maybe making comic books...

I'm going to pot up more Doc Ferocious stuff from now on, and some other stuff from another show called " TRAPPED IN DIMENSION X!!!"....

Monster Mayhem art

Here are some promotional images of a show I created awhile ago called "Monster Mayhem". They are a few comic book covers and some misc. stuff. I'll post some character designs for the show too a little later...

# 1 Based on those old pulp EC comics...i wish you could still buy a comic for 10 cents....

In the laboratory of Dr. Rot. My least favorite of the bunch.

ACTION STILL!! ( oooooh )

Detective Frank Grimm attacked by a brood of devouring Pit Fiends! On this one the background was done by the very talented Patrick Pakula. It has that great painterly look like the BGs in those old Flinstones episodes.

A tip of the hat to the first Fantastic Four...

DOC FEROCIOUS

DEVELOPMENT ART
This is a newer show pitch called "The Stand Back Adventures of Dr. Ferocious" that's still in the starting blocks. Although at the moment I'm thinking I will probably make a comic out of it first. I started to color it, but I kind of like the inked look around the central character...so i left it as is. More artwork to come
